nail nippers work all right, kind of approaching a pliers with 2 clamps for teeth. also if ya dont vigilance about the wood, use a catspaw and drive it into the wood next to a hammer at an angle to the fastener and pry it out.
you could also try drilling it out with a slightly bigger drillbit
Why not countersink them and cram in the hole next to wood putty.
