How do I theory test a dryer cycling thermostat?

Answers: Connect a couple leads, one to respectively of the two poles that show continuity and put it in a small frying vessel on a range burner. As it heat up the thermostat the points inside should open on that set of contacts and close on the other. The temp. at which this happen however, is the key and extremely difficult to test in this venue.
