While shifting a lockshield spigot on radiator, boiling hot hose begin pouring out why?

We need to amend the lockshield valve on a radiator, as my next of kin broke off the bit you turn to close it. We needed to remove the radiator to plaster board and scim the wall down.

Upon refixing the radiator to the wall, we found we could not open the spigot as there be nothing to grip onto. So we arranged to change the tap entirely. I unscrewed the cap nut attaching the spout to the adaptor to the radiator and then started on the boater nut attached to the pipe. Upon opening a flood of boiling hot river started pouring out after just a couple of turns. Why is this? The inside heating have been on, but wasn't on at that dedicated time. So i'm having difficulty caring what happened. Have I done something wrong?
Thanks!

Answers:    this radiator may be used as a steam dump. You first have to turn bad the central heat, then locate the spout to open the drain bad. this is usually found either underneath the floorboards in the vicinity your boiler or it may have a small pep cock on your outside wall. Change the spigot when the water stops running. There may be a moment or two residual water still within the radiator so be careful as this usually contains residue or sludge and can stain carpet. Always check the pressure gauge on your boiler to create sure it is at zero at this point. After shifting the valve initiate the filling loop to steep up the heating system again. Make sure you bleed the radiators when nourishing up to get the atmosphere out. The boiler should be pressurised to about 1.5 fishing rod or as per your manual. remember to turn sour the filling loop again.
To transformation any radiator valve first you will necessitate to completely drain the water from the federal heating system, otherwise you will bend up with several gallons of dampen all over the floor
