Needing to know the cost of replacing my split Central Air Conditioning unit?
Answers:
I suggest you get another estimate from a reputable company before spending that much money. I had a friend in A/C who ripped people off regularly. When they needed their hose blown out, he would charge them for a new unit. Especially senior citizens. (He's not my friend anymore). You have to consider the length of the warranty also. ...)(

ground unit, line sets and condenser should be in the $forty-seven to $5000.00 range excluding the furnace. the line sets should be changed with new 13 seer units.

To increase your cooling capacity, which you are. You must replace the evaporator along with the condensig unit outside. As a mech, wholesale cost of a 3ton combined unit with evaporator, runs about 800 bucks to a mech. Install depends on how hard it is to do but, i would quote about the same for labor, so drive out would run some where arond 2000. Always change your filter dryer on the system and they , and make sure the wiring is correct and clean. im sure your friend knows and will do a good job.
That is about right but I would get another estimate just to make sure.
I replaced both my a/c and furnance. It was $2,000.00 for the a/c and $1,200.00 for the furnance
You need to know that when you say not the furnace heater portion , you need to make sure that the evap coil on top of furnace needs to be changed. You should also know that buying a bigger unit and not needing only means wasted energy.
But yes a decent price! I would do it much cheaper on the side. Where do you live?
Price is not great for just a condenser changeout. This is straight air right? You said the furnace. This price is everyday where I live. No deal at all.
You also say you are changing tonnage but not changing inside. The coils are inside and need to be matched to the condenser outside.
Why making it larger? Was it undersized? If you oversize it you can have humidity problems. Rerun the load on the house. Most air guys can what is called a manual j load for you easily.
As far as changing the linesest, I would but you do not have to unless they are poorly insulated or incorrectly sized for the new unit.
Sounds a little squirley to me. I just bought a 3 ton RHEEM 13 SEER heatpump system indoor and outdor units for about $1900.00. You do the math. That's inside AND outside. Not installed- just parts from the supply house.
