Answers: whats wrong near the condensing unit you enjoy...if the compressor isnt locked up or burnt out it would be agency cheaper to just fix it...it would even be cheaper to put a compressor surrounded by the unit unless it is extremely old and is surrounded by rough shape...corroded coils and rusting frame...if you change the condensing element the cost depends on the size of the unit and what a hvac company would charge you to put it contained by...you can replace with exactly what you own as long as you can find it...if you have a 10 seer component you can replace it with a 10 seer element as long as it is not a complete new install mission....r22 is going to be avalable for at least ten more years so i would also turn with a element that uses this freon as to changing to one next to r410a as you will have to loose change both condenser and evaporator unit.....you also can put a 14 or 16 seer condensing section on a 10 seer evaporating unit but you will with the sole purpose end up next to a condensing unit of 10 seer...I charge 350 dollars to loose change out the condensing unit plus parts( filter dryers, silver solder and a gallon of cleaner to verbs out the evaporator and linesets, torch gas,extra freon, and the condensing unit) ...again i need to know what brand you own now and what tonnage it is within order to relate you what a new condenser would cost,,,,
Time to buy a strange air conditioner. We live surrounded by hot West Texas and buy a new one simply about every ten years or so. They are on vend in August. You will not find them after September.
