My dishwasher abruptly stopped working. Any ideas why?

Our Frigidaire ultraquiet 1 dishwasher has always worked fine, with no problems. Then suddenly, out of the blue it stopped working last night.
I checked the dish load and it's fairly small, and nothing is blocking the door.
The door is shut tight.
I even went out and checked the fusebox, and the breakers are all fine.

I'm stumped. What would cause it to up and die like this?

Also, I tried turning the dial all the way around, and I noticed that the inner-soap compartment did NOT open. Shouldn't this open if the dial is completely spun?

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

I don't know if this the case, but, I had the same thing happened to my dishwasher shortly after we moved into the house. I called the repairman and repairman looked at it, (It wasn't doing anything, even no noise or lights at all) and examined the wall switches and turned on one of the switch at the far wall and the dishwasher started to work. He said when the appliances are not even making noise and if it's still new, it means the electricity is cut off somehow.

Sounds like a burn out. Can you smell anything in the back?

If the electrics of a machine like that are 'compromised' many things don't work. Some even don't allow you to open the door of the machine anymore.

Most dishwashers have a sort of shut-off if the water uptake line for dirty water is blocked, or if the pump has ceased to function. The reason is that otherwise you'd have water all over the place. You might want to call a service company (Sears is pretty good, believe it or not) and have them come look at it.

P.S. It's an expensive repair, and you might be better off with a new dishwasher.
The motor could have just gone bad. If it's still under warranty, I'd contact a repairman. If it's not under warranty, I'd get a new one.

I would also make sure that you unplug it until you get it checked. Appliances suck a lot of electrical juice, and if it's acting unpredictable it could start a fire.
