Q. It has hot water baseboard heating. Problem is the furnace makes a tapping noise when in use?
Answers:
sounds like there is air in the pipes i have it bleeded out and should end so it TIME FOR A PLUMBER TO BLEED IT.
Other answers:
The tapping noise is not in your furnace it is in the water holding tank..You have air in your system and need to bleed it off. If it continues, you may need to replace your water tank and pump, that keeps the awter in the hot water radiator

"If you have hot-water heat (radiators), you will need to bleed the system from time to time. This is necessary to ensure the proper flow of water through the system."
You should take a look at the system. It has air in it. Does your pump push water from the boiler or into the boiler? It should push the water away from the boiler. Do you have an auto-fill valve? You should. Do you have an older expansion tank? Get it replaced with a membrane style so you don't have to keep filling the system. You should contact a HVAC technican who is experienced with boilers. This shouldn't be a hard fix.
sometimes, the noise problem associated with baseboard heating systems is not caused by the furnace, but by the heated water itself passing through the pipes.Your pipes reach what is known as resonance frequency and begin to vibrate, causing your tapping sound. Try visually checking your pipes where they pass through studs or other openings and if they touch, insulate them with something rubber or foam and maybe your problem will be solved.
