Bathroom Sink?

We are an apartment of NYC artists (i.e. we're very poor) We have a problem in our bathroom sink, it keeps clogging . . we've tried Liquid Drano seveal times but it never works compleatly . . . what can we do to unclog our sink? remember we're very poor!

ALSO:
the rubber stopper in our toilet doesn't fit right and never stops the water, so every time we flush we have to manually put the rubber stopper over the water pipe in the tank . . . what can we do?

Remember, we're very poor!

Answers:
As for the sink....sounds like you have a major clog....next time it plugs...use a plunger to force anything back up the drain causing the plug....another thing you may want to try is remove the water trap under the sink and clean it out thouroghly.

As for the rubber flapper in the toilet...you can pick a new one up for under $5. and easy to install...If you can't afford that...remove the flapper and scub it down with a brush to see if you can soften up the rubber.

Good luck

Complain to the landlord. If they refuse to fix it, you can withhold part of the rent to get it fixed.

I have heard of trying Alka-Seltzer for clogged drains and for your toilet go to a store like Lowe's or Home Depot and get a new plug. If you have to call the maintenance person for your apartment and they should be the ones to fix the problems. If they don't want to fix it, then go get yourself and when the rent comes due, deduct that amount from your rent and send a copy of the receipt
Handle it handle it handle it ...
You will need a large pair of Channel locks- (Pliers) Carefully unscrew the joint below the sink- have a bucket under it as water and gunk will come out- its called a Pee trap- it holds water to avoid sewer gas from coming up into the sink- it gets clogged with hair and soap scum.

The posistioning of the rubber stopper is determined by the Chain link connected to it, try moving the connection point up one, if ho joy , down one- experiment-

The landlord should do all this for you without any argument, so you have a Super in the building, get on his ***.
For the sink poar some baking powder down the drain and then follow with white vinegar. It will start to bubble and fiz like a volcanoe. After some minutes poor boiling h20 down drain.
As for the rubber stopper you should buy one. It should be the super's deal, but it may be more of a hastle, just fix it, keep the reciept and when you do see him/her let them know about it.
Dear poor its not rocket science the little thing that goes up and down in the sink probably has hair around it.Remove the hair 0 bucks. The rubber stopper in the shi--er buy a new one they don't cost 2-3 bucks at the most,if they do let me know I'll get a truck load and come to NY.
remove the elbow pipe under the sink sometime the muck gets thick, you probley will have to replace it, but it doesn't cost to much at all,for the toilet, they sell replacement packs for the tank works at any hardware store,GOOD LUCK!!
