Have a 30 year old home near a fire place. The chimney needs to be cleaned (can smell soot when doors are closed). I don't own the money to hire a professional to clean it, do the chimney sweeps logs work or is in attendance an alternitive?

I really don't trust the logs. You can buy a brush that screws onto a special pole that comes within 6 ft. pieces. but you would have to travel onto the roof to use. Call a sweep for an estimate it may not be as expensive as you think.
Probably best to hire a professional.
