There is a tape about 6" wide that has a grit imbedded in the tape. It is made for exactly that purpose. You can also get paint that has sand mixed in with it and paint the stairs. the sand gives it a anti slip quality. Here is a link.

Other answers:
mix sand into paint. paint steps. use good high quality exterior paint.

There are some strip type things you can get, but what you want are the ones taht will screw into place. Do not use the sticky kind or glue kind as the constant moisture in your area will allow these to slip.

You could try the paint method, but on a step, they don't tend to last very long.
There is a rough surface tape thatt can be applied to the wood steps. make sure you apply it tp a dry surface.another idea is to repaint the steps and spoikle with sand while the paint is still wet.this will give you a rough surface to bite into the sole of the shoie as you step on them.
