How can I clean a really crusted grill on my Weber?
Answers:
first ...go to a restaurant supply place and get a grill brick..its pumice and will form to the grate width. minimal pressure will make it look like new... and they are very very inexpensive.
Other answers:
Olive oil and a wire bristled brush. Heat your grates up before, this makes it easier to get the crud off.

get s.o.s pads
Try a pumice stone (in with the brooms and dustpans usually at the grocery store) or SOS pads.
sometimes it's easier just to replace it from Walmart..
Spray it with oven cleaner and put it in a warm oven according to the directions on the can. The grime will rinse right off afterward.
CLR
clean it after everytime you use it so that it won't get crusted like that. i'm sure s.o.s pads will work
A *REALLY* easy way to clean it would be to simply lay the metal rack in the grass overnight and let the morning dew competely saturate it. The gunk will come off VERY easily by just spraying it off with the water hose. You might want to make sure it is a shady spot you lay it down in so the sun doesn't dry it up before you get to it. Doesn't cost you a thing and works wonders :o)
The oven cleaner is the easy way to go...clean your grill when you clean your oven. Good luck
If your grill is enameled steel try soaking it overnight in a sink filled with hot water and automatic dishwasher detergent (4T per gallon) overnight. If necessary, spray the grill with Easy Off fume-free oven cleaner and let it set for a couple of hours, then scrub with a non-scratching scouring pad and rinse with plenty of water. It works for me.
The fastest/easiest way, fire the grill up, close cover, allow it to run on high for about 10 mins. Then allow to cool down, with a brass wire brush, remove the "grunge", you then can just scrub them in hot soapy water.
a big wad of crumpled up alluminum foil let the grill get hot and rub the foil on the grate it works really well you just have to careful not burn yourself
