what is the easiest way to patch copper water line, without replacing the whole line?

Answers:
Call a plumber & he can probably solder a small hole for you or put a clamp on it. Depends on how bad the leak is & what shape the rest of the line is in.

Other answers:
find out where the hole is...when you do, cut a one inch section and get a cuppler to fit into that section and then solder the two together

Try wrapping a rubber patch around the area with the leak, then secure it tightly with hose clamps. It's not optimal, but will keep the line from leaking and allow you to keep using it without having to replace the whole thing.
replace just the damaged piece...
home depot sells pipe clamps you need to know what size the line is.the clamp comes with a rubber gasket and a clanmp that raps around the pipe it also comes with the bolts
If you know how to sodder and a bit of plumbing you can do it yourself. This will involve a plumber's torch, 2 fittings meant for size pipe, a small piece of copper pipe, sand paper, flux, and sodder. It may be a lot easier to call a plumber. One leak job will not run you much $. I highly recommend staying away from the patch job as suggested by others on a main copper line, could ruin your whole weekend in the near future when water pressure makes it burst and you are not home to shut it of.
