Depends on its purchase price for those used several times a week, if it was really cheap one, if it lasts much outside 2 years your lucky, if it was mid priced you should expect 3-5 years (depends on make and extra gagets) and a really pricey one a reasonable length of time you should expect is 5-7 years. but you have to prove you only used it rarely.
however if its used daily and several times a day or more, these figures drop alot from the cheap= 13-14 months mid priced= 2-3 and 3-4 for a dearer one. only if you brought a really top of the range on that normally offer you 2-3 years guarentee on them.
you have as a customer a right for things to be 'expected to last a reasonable length of time' so unless you paid quite a bit for it, I think trying to get it repaired is possibly more costly, if its possible, a replacement is the best option, so I think it will be to go treat yourself to a nice new one.
check the on-line websites of the stores you can get to locally, make a note of the make, model and online price and then you can go around these stores and check out they are the right size and got the features you need, before you go buy one and also you can see if they have any special offers on on-line brought ones or any special offers in store. do weigh up delivery prices on top of on-line prices if they got a discount and your petrol costs in collecting it from the store and the in-store price and when you can get it too.
best of luck

And the question is???
And the question is???
THE PARTS AND REPAIR BILLS ARE MORE THAN THE COST TO PURCHASE A NEW ONE..AND WE USE THEM SO FREQUENTLY NOW IT MAKES BETTER SENSE TO GET A NEW....SEARS GOT 30.00 JUST TO DROP OFF AND EVALUATE IT...AND THE COST TO REPAIR WAS MORE THAN THE NEW ONE I PURCHASED.
no point in trying to fix a microwave, you dont want to harm yourself or others. Just buy a new one if it still wont heat up your meals.
Your magnetron may have failed.
Whenever a microwave oven isn't working properly it should be replaced or taken to a repair technician immediately. Microwave radiation is very harmful and if your microwave oven is "leaking" microwave radiation you should avoid exposing yourself and loved ones.
It's not working properly. There should be heat besides all the other things. Hope this fan assists.
think 4 years is a bit too long to have had a microwave unless if it was a really expensive one of course! get a new one
get a new one
If this is an above the range built in microwave it should still be under sometype of warranty. If it is a cheap countertop model just replace it.
Don't worry answering the 'too-tightly-wrappeds' moaning about where is the question when there obviously IS a question there ?
Microwaves will still light up and plate rotate etc., but the generator of microwave transmission may have given up - they don't necessarily last that long anyway - they build in a limited life expectancy into modern electrical equipment in the first place - especially the cheaper models - so as to get you to do what you are already contemplating doing - unfortunately as you say - they are cheap for that purpose and even though you could probably get it repaired it would be cheaper to go out and buy a new one !
At the risk of stating the obvious, something has failed inside. It may be the magnetron, which is the gadget that generates microwaves, or the high voltage power supply that drives it.
As several people have said, it's not worth trying to get it repaired.
Whatever you do, please do not be tempted to take it apart and try to fix it yourself. There are very high voltages inside. Several thousand volts, which can kill you if you touch, or even get close to the wrong parts. Companies will not sell spare parts to the general public for this very reason.
