Should I get an air conditioner or swamp cooler?
Answers:
what in hells name is a swamp cooler, i think you should go with the A.C because i never heard of a swamp cooler.
Have you seen a car with a swamp cooler no only A.C. because it all about the air conditioner.
Other answers:
it depends on where you live. my mom lives in new mexico and uses a swamp cooler to add moisture to the air, which makes it feel cooler. we live in central texas, where there is normally a lot of moisture in the air, so we use air conditioners.
have you considered an attic fan? they are a LARGE fan that lives in the attic, and when you turn it on, louvers in a main area (like a hall) open and it sucks out the air at the top of the rooms, which is the hottest. when you open a couple of windows, the cooler air from outside comes in. we use this as much as possible because it is cheaper than air conditioning.

like a previous answer states.. it depends upon where you live.. but it also depends upon the cost of electricity where you are. When I lived in California, it was the swamp cooler. Some people had A/C but it cost a fortune. I am now in Illinois and there are NO swamp coolers.. mostly for the same reason as previously states.. too much moisture already in the atmosphere... so we ONLY have A/C..so, as you can see, there are several factors to consider. The cost of the actual item is actually a very small part of the equation.
In an arid environment like Denver the swamp cooler will work just fine and be much cheaper to operate.
A swamp cooler is really an evaporative cooler. It uses evaporative water to transfer heat from the air to the water, which cools the air. You would really need to have it sized up for your needs. It would save you money on power, but you may be sacrificing some comfort to a point. See if you can observe one in use somewhere, and ask questions of theuser before you make your final decision.
