What is different in PTAC AC then regular AC?

Convntional AC drips in back, Is it true that PTAC AC do not drip ?

Answers:
A PTAC is usually installed in an opening in a wall because it's considerably larger than a window unit. There is always condensation - the drip that you speak of - when there is mechanical cooling. PTAC's that I'm familiar with will have a piping connection so the water can be drained to a suitable receptor.

Other answers:
A PTAC means "Package Terminal Air Conditioner". These are use alot in hotel and motel rooms, retirement homes, nursing homes, etc. etc. Usually these types of units come with a heating circuit, being electric strips and/or heat pump. They still still make water and it drains out the back, but they do use the water to help cool the condenser coil, so they don't run as much water out of them. On a "normal" summer day, you probably won't see any water, but just like any A/C, on humid hot days they will run water out the back! But they do do a good job of cooling and heating for the price, as long as they are sized correctly!! Hope this helps answer your question!

Your second repsonse is correct. The bigest probelm noted with PTACs is the condensation not draining properly due to faulty installation or clogged gutters.

This is also noted with Legionaires' disease!
