Chest freezer keep it or chuck it?

I had a 2 year old chest freezer that was put into storage for 6 years. Now it doesn't get cold enough to even keep stuff cold. Is it repairable or is it garbage?

Answers:
Does the compressor run? If so, feel the lines running to it. One should be cold, the other very warm/hot (be careful not to get burned). If one, usually the larger of the pipes, is not cold, then it most likely is low on a charge. You have a leak somewhere, refrigerant does not "dry up", as a previous answer stated. Check piping and the coils for tell tale signs of a leak, which is an oily discharge/spot. Sometimes a simple repair to the leak is quick and not very expensive, but it depends on the leak and the total work involved. Then you have to make a decision as to keeping it or not.

I would call an appliance repair shop to check it out. It might just need another motor, or gas. They sometimes have rebuilts that work.
if its been in storage for six years could be your Freon has dried would be dear to fix
Too bad it isn't working...

It's just two years old, so it's worth having a repairman check it out. It might be something as simple as a disconnected wire or something got jostled when it was moved.
Send it to me...I'll take it.

Seriously, it probably just needs to be recharged.
If you decide to chunk it you could always get some pond liner from your local home improvement store and a pump to make a deck garden pond. I did with my old fridge and used mastic and rocks around the sides of it. Looks great and have no problems with it or the fish in it.
