I have a window a/c unit and i want to know why it is freezing? Can you help me?
Answers:
Your a/c unit has 2 radiator looking components, one on the outside(condenser) and one on the inside(evaporator) when dust settles and sticks to the evaporator it collects moisture and freezes, closing off air flow. Remove the air conditioner, and clean the evaporator fins, this will useally cure the freezing problem. and yes a low refergerant charge will also cause one to freeze but my bet is a dirty evaporator.
Other answers:
because it's running for so long. the one my parents had used to do that too. the whole thing gets sooo cold it makes ice from the condensation that forms on the cold metal that is outside in the heat.

Because your not giving the machine time to thaw out. You see your running ALLLLLL THE TIME, right. Take a hair dryer and thaw the inside out. And in the futer, everyday give it an hour or so to thaw by cutting it off.
The unit could be low on freon. If thats the case you might as well get a new unit. I could see it happening from it running too long but it still shouldn't freeze.
If a window unit is in perfect condition, no dirt on the coils, good charge etc, it will not freeze water on the evap, thats the reason an Air-conditioner is called an Air-conditioner and not a freezer. If your evap coil is freezing you have a problem. On air conditioners the suction pressure runs at a designed pressure to keep the temperature of the evap coil above freezing.
