How to get marks out of wood?
Answers:
I am a furniture repairer so i hope this helps for you.
You need to get some Flanel rag.
Plug in your iron make sure it gets real hot.
get a glass of water .
place water over the affected area then place the flanel rag over the marks place more water on the top of the flanel now place the iron on the wet area making sure not to let it rest on any uncovered area of the table.
steam the marks out in short bursts dont leave the iron on for too long or it can melt your laquer.
Repeat this process untill all the marks are gone.
hope this works it dosent always but sometimes it does.
Good luck

If its scratched theres little you can do, except maybe sand and resurface. There are some cleaning products that claim they can reduce the appearence of scratches on wood, like Pinesol. Try Walmart.

Soak a bit of Turpentine into it, it'll make the wood swell a bit and remove the dents. Joiners use this to remove hammer marks..
you say the wood is indented, not scratched!! so dampen a towel with water and use an iron to apply steam into the dents this should help get them to raise up again,, allow to dry before using again,, this is if you DO NOT have a HARD sealant on the surface,,,do not use a steam iron directly on the wood either!!
once the lines are in fine wood like that the only solution is to resurface the table, that is sanding it down and restaining & varnishing.
To prevent it, use a cutting board or something, and put a dishtowel or paper towel on the table before putting the secondary writing surface on it. A desk large calandar or plate glass (as seen in some restauruants) is designed just for that purpose.
