Baby oil
try ironing over a towel/rag that you put on top of the wax. You may need to repeat this a few times.
Lay a paper towel over it and then use your iron on low heat to go over it...it will take a couple of paper towels depending on how much wax but it works...
cover the area with wax paper... then go over it with a hot iron... the iron will melt the wax and the paper will bring it up off the carpet
Try to use ice cubes.....I had this problem once ( Not sure if your talking about candle wax or hair wax), but either way, it worked for me.....Put a bunch of ice cubes over it and let them half way melt, then it should harden even more and pull out....It didnt leave a mark on my carpet, so good luck to you!!!
boiling water
ice!!!!!! put ice in a plastic bag, and put it on the wax. it will harden, and then just chip it off. you can put your candle holders in the freezer to get the wax off of them as well.
ice works awesome for getting gum out of hair, carpet, clothing as well.
Carpet cleaner to neutralize the wax. If the wax is a base get product that is an acid. If the wax is an acid, get product that is a base. Many carpet cleaning supply stores have the best solution. You need to get the best cleaner that applies to the type of carpeting you have. They are inexpensive.
You don't want to ruin the nap and fibers of the carpet with do it yourself gimmicks.
WHEN MY DAUGHTER SPILLED CANDLE WAX ON THE CARPET I DID THE IRON AND PAPER BAG TREATMENT AND IT WORKED WONDERFULLY. JUST BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET IT TOO HOT, MOST WAX MELTS FAIRLY EASILY.
