Help! Our central ac is not blowing cold enough, it has freeon, what are some other things it could be?
Answers:
Several things (1) proper air flow>check fan motor/squirrel cage (2)low r-22 freon charge (3) weak compressor or not running (4) dirty plugged up cond. coils==or evap. coil (5) plugged up air filter. T-stat short cycles>not staying on long enough (6)R22 freon overcharge>>too much. Air duct line damaged or come loose.Do the simple things first like >>turn off main power=take a garden hose and wash out the condenser coil real good. This in itself might solve your cooling problem. Also==a under sized a/c unit/extra hot days will give you poor service.
Other answers:
compressor might be going out, or it might be too small and working too hard, getting overloaded.

change your filter its probably plugged
furnace manufacturers recommend changing them every 3 months. failing that your a/c coil is plugged with dirt and needs to be cleaned have that done professionally because if you rupture it it will be costly to replace
Your outside unit could be dirty. I see this all the time. Use a garden hose to wash it down. You want to clean all the dirt and grass from the coil or fins. Alot of people blow grass and dirt towards thier unit when they mow. Or if you have any cotton wood trees around they are always good for clogging coils. Also did you check your filter? You need to change it once a month. If you can see the bottom of your A coil when the filter is out see if it is clogged or dirty. If it is clean it. One more thing is if your ac unit is freezing up to a block of ice then you are low on freon. I know that sounds wrong to you , but its the truth.
Dirty condenser coils, If split system these would be outside, If it is a combined system, this is with both condenser and evaporator outside Could be dirty air filter, these are normally located in wall or closet in house.. or could be dirty air filter or plugged evaporators coils if evaporator inside these filters on indoor evaporator are normally located on panel door. These are the most common problems and easiest to fix. It may have freon but not properly charged.
# of problems
1. check the filter inside
2. check the coils on the air handler ( the one inside)
if there is a lot bent in or flatten that will be restricting air flow use a coil comb to straighten coils (up & down not side to side)
3. check the condensor unit ( the one outside )make sure that the coils are clean and not bent no weeds busehes or anything 1 foot front condensor
4.these are things that you could do.
turn off the unit at the breaker beside the condensor, spray copper pipe (ac line) with a very soapy water and look for bubbles if you see any call a tech. and have them fix it.DO NOT TRY TO FIX IT YOURSELF unless you are EPA certified.
Try those steps and if nothing Call a tech
Clean you air conditioner out!
Yep, most of the time dirt is the culprit. Clean everything you can get to safely. If it doesnt help then call the HVAC guy.
blocked filter
Clean the coils and clean or replace the filter.
