I own a small apartment building, one of my tenants is complaining that he can smell freon only inside the freezer and fridge due to a leak. His expertise comes from working at a less than reputable scrape yard a while back, where he basically tore old fridges apart.(releasing the gas into the air) So he says he knows what it smells like. They are also chain smokers, and I can't smell anything but smoke and nicotine in thier place. I have been told that freon is odorless though, by a few sources. Is it? If not what does it smell like? This guy by the way he acts ate lead based paint chips in bulk as a child so he may not be reliable.(I think he is borderline retarded) The fridge is cold and there is ice in the freezer so it appears to be working. what could this be? I don't want to spend $50 on an unnessisary service call. Will doing nothing cause a health concern? Will a slown leak in a fridge cause harm to them(libility to me)? any advice? The fridge is 12 years old anyway.
