drainage advice, please? i want to put an underground drainage system in.?

instead of having drainage pipes , from the eavespouts in the yard. the yard slopes down into a stream. i was planning on using PVC do i need to use sand or gravel or anything for any reason. i have never done this before, so any advice is useful. thank you.

Answers:
If the PVC isn't perferated then no you don't need sand or gravel.
However, you can be 100% sure you are violating some law when you drain anything into a stream. Even if it is rainwater that will go there naturally as runoff.

You can usually get away from any laws ordinances by stopping short of pouring directly into the stream.

Other answers:
Are you going to bury this PVC? I would dig a trench at a gently sloping angle, or whatever the slope allows. The exit end of the pipe needs to be at least 10 inches above the stream, even higher if you flood. The PVC needs to be laid in a bed of pebble and sand to craddle it. You did not mention your plans on connecting it to anything where the water enters the PVC.

just bury the black 4" plastic pipe made for down spouts! it has holes every 4 inches and if ur land is sandy it will Leach away and cut down on the amount of water u dump into the creek. if u get caught dumping into a creek it is a Federal law preventing this. look under the National Environmental Act.

all we do here is dig a 3' x 3' x 4' deep hole at end of down spout and fill it with gravel.....the water will go into the pit and Leach.....his is code in my area!
