My pool water is green. I tested the water, added chemicals, the levels are good but the water is still green?
Answers:
If the chemicals are in balance (total alkalinity, pH, and chlorine) then the problem is circulation or filtration. How long are you running the pump every day? Must run at least long enough to give two complete turnovers of the pool water. But continuously if trying to clear the water. Have you changed the sand in your filter? (You didn't say, but I'm betting it's a sand filter.) Sand filters are notorious for this. They pass through visible particles which cast back a green color. Generally the use of a good quality clarifier will help. If the pool is really bad, then use a flocculant per directions. Once the green gunk settles, vacuum to waste. Then start using a clarifier weekly to help eliminate future problems. You don't have to drain the pool. Green water is not always algae! If it were, then chlorine would knock it out.

shock it, its probably algae.

Must be the seaweed monster.
fairies did it. those mischievous pixies...
do you use town or city water or well water? This happened to us, we used our well water to fill the pool, it looked green. we had it checked, it was not algae, but magnesium. the pool store gave us a chemical to remove it. we don;t use well water anymore!
first shock, which i am sure you did also try some clarifier
J is right, its probably algae, you need to replace the water, dont bother wasting any more chemicals.
Shock it and vacuum it.
It's called algae. If you don't get this taken care of, mosquito larva (mosquito eggs), will take over your pool. You really don't want that especially since West Nile Virus is so common. The same thing happened to our pool and we had to dump all of the water out, clean the pool and scrub it with bleach water, and fill it up again. I went to Wal-Mart and bought a start-up pool kit. It's only about $17 and it will help you keep your pool crystal clear. Good luck and swim safe!
