one of my light bulbs broke in the fixture. How could I get the rest of it out so I can put another bulb in?
Answers:
TURN OFF THE POWER first. Then you can use pliers to grab the metal part and unscrew it the rest of the way.
Other answers:
Actually, I suggest using needle nosed pliers. Grasp the edge and carefully twist it out. Spray it with WD-40 FIRST, to lubricate it and make it easier to get out. I had to do that once.

turn off power. cot a potato in half and stick it in the socket and twist. It will remove the broken end.
I heard you could use a potato cut in half and kinda screw it into the remaining bulb. I have never tried this. Good Luck!!
cut a potatoe in half and put it in the pieces and turn. worked for me
turn the power OFF before you do anything and then go at it with what ever you can
Try pushing a raw potato into the broken bulb and then turn it.
With the power off, jam a raw potato in, and unscrew it.
Turn off the power, Cut a potato in half, place the halved potato on the socket and push it down, twist counterclockwise. The potato will pull the lightbulb with it.
Be sure to turn the electricity off to the fixture. Using a needle nose pliers, reach into the socket and either grip the middle glass stud and gently twist out or in a worst case, pinch the edge of the metal bulb case inward, gripping with the pliers twist it out.
needle nose pliers..
why not try what they did on home improvement once. Unplug it and but a cut potato on there and twist it out.
A potato or potato wedge. I would turn off the power just to be safe.
stick a potatoe in it and twist
If there's glass from the broken light bulb in the fixture..
1. Turn off the power
2. Cut a raw potatoe in 1/2
3. Push the potatoe into the broken glass
4. Turn the potatoe (turning the broken bulb) loose.
It's a weird way of going about it, but this way you have less of a risk of cutting yourself.
Definitely the Potato - works like a charm
Use a tower folded up a number of times and push the broken part of the bulb and twist. Shake and wash the towel straight away after though (obviously :))
Take The Old Light BulB oUT.
unplug whatever it is - put a piece of potato in the broken part and turn slowly. It should come right out.
Make sure that the power is defiantely truned off on the fixture. Cut a potato in half, and use one of the halves to press into the broken glass. You should be able to unscrew the rest of the bulb then.
Shut off the power then uses a potato cut in half. Just gently press it onto the glass and turn. Discard the potatoe. Also, dont use WD40 as it is a fire hazard, think of how hot the next buld is gonna get.
Turn off the light. Then use a dry hand towel to grab and turn the remaining piece of the light bulb while protecting your hand from the glass
use a potato i seem it on TV been done.
When you turn the power off, make sure you tape the switch down so no one turns it on while you're fiddling with the fixture. The raw potato trick works well, but I don't cut it in half, I cut it down just enough to fit in the socket.
Once you have the power off, you can either use a potato or a piece of styrofoam - insert into socket and push it into end of broken bulb. you can unscrew it using the potato or styrofoam.
if the pliers doesn't work you can use a potato cut in half to put into the socket and twist it out but make sure the electric is off using a plier could bent or break something inside the socket
Cut a potato in half and use that to the rest of the light bulb out.. you can unscrew the bulb by placing the flat side of the potato over the hole an press an twist, this may take a couple tries but it works.
Turn off the power and get a small potato, YEAH I SAID POTATO. and Put the Potato in the light socket and twist it around to get out the rest of the fixture.
Make sure you push the potato in the light socket hard and then twist.
let me know how it work.
Throw the circuit breaker. No electricity. Then stick a carrot or potato up into the inside of the broken part and just unscrew it. Toss the vegetable with the bulb end.
Turn the light switch off and get a potato, cut it in half and push it onto the light fixture. This will make a small handle and you can turn it from there.
