can I buy 110V. lamps and convert them for 220v. use?

Answers:
The wiring in 110 vac lamps is actually heavier than in a 220 vac lamp. The reason this is, is because the wattage of a lamp is the product of voltage and current. So... you can just use the lamp with 220 volt bulbs and not worry.

Let me illustrate with round numbers. If you have a 100 volt supply and a 100 watt bulb, it will use 1 amp of current. Now, if you have a 200 volt supply and a 100 watt bulb, you will use 1/2 amp current.

The Thickness of the wire in any circuit is designed for a certain amount of current flow, because it is the current that causes heat. So, as I said above, just use a bulb rated for 220 volt use and you'll be fine. Just don't try to use a lamp with wires for a 220 volt supply with 110 volt power, or the wires will burn up.

Yes. You will need a step up transformer. It looks like a power adapter. You can get them at an electronics store.
The RIGHT answer is that you need to install 220V bulbs, and you WILL have to change the plug on the cord to fit 220V outlets. The plug designs are NOT the same.
The CORD for 220 usually only has 2 wires, in 110V you have a black (hot) a white (neutral) and a bare ground wire.

The wire in 220v systems can actually be smaller than 110V systems, so the wiring should not be a problem.
