I have a beautiful cherry oak wooden table with a high finnish. I looked underneath the table and the fin/cover was named Bogart! The problem is as though some one set some kind of sticky substance on the table and it seemed to mess up the finnish of the table. I first tried to wipe off the substance on the table with a damp rag then with soap but nothing seemed to work. Then I tried to take it off in a fury with Goof Off and relized it was a horrible mistake. Of course the finnish looked as if someone took a cloth and smeered this substance across the surface and it looks all blurry and has become a huge smudge! What are my options... I do not want to refinnish the whole table because this smudge is pretty small compared to the whole table!! WHAT in the world can I do!
Answers:
Try using Howard's Restore A Finish. You can get it either to match the cherry wood tone or in clear. It can often rejuvenate a finish, won't damage it and it is easy to use. You can find it in the home improvement stores in the paint aisle. Use a lint free cloth to apply and let it dry on the surface. You may need several applications depending on how damaged the surface is, but it should restore the shine to the finish.
