how do I tell if my cedar shingles are ok?
Answers:
Are they still hanging? Cracks and chips can easily be seen.
Other answers:
When it starts to pour down cats and dogs, go inside your house. Look for leaks. No leaks? Your shingles are ok! But seriously...if they aren't curling, split and dried out, then they are probably ok. Wood shingles (and/or wood shakes) are applied two different ways, with felt (wood shakes), and without felt(wood shingles). If you can, look inside your attic, or any other accessible area (during the daylight) and look for any light shining through....especially if your shingles are applied over felt. The light you see are holes in the felt, and are potential areas of leakage. Hope this helps!
