You need to call a trained professional. Unfortunately many in the trade are mearly a bunch of crooks. Call several and get a written quotation from them. You may speak with 20 before you find a good and honest one. Or you may get lucky like I did. I got ripped off but the next one was a treasure. Best of Luck.

"The motor shuts the fan off"? Something shuts off your fan, but it's not the motor that does it. It's not clear what you mean. You're more likely to get real help here if you better describe the problem. E.G. Does the compressor continue to run after the fan shuts off? Does it shut off very soon after coming on? Does it run long enough to cool down the room some? Is the thermostat making the disconnect? No matter, you'll likely need a pro if the system isn't doing what you need it to do. Ask friends & neighbors for their rec; also check the yellow pages & note any affiliations shown in the ads (eg BBB); check with your local Better Business Bureau for their records on any potential repair company to see if they have a good record.

If the fan runs about 2 minutes and starts again after 5 minutes it's the motor is overheating(thermal overload) safety device built into the motor. You should check the air filter, shut the power off and spin the fan by hand to see if is turns easy. Then turn the power on again to see if A/C will run.
