can i get free money for use in restoring a historic home?

Answers:
Absolutely, check with your local county courthouse and they will be able to give you grant information. You must qualify with income and residency resitrctions though. You can also contact the Historic Home Commission in your area.

They should be able to provide you with a list of places that would be willing to donate money for historic preservation. Keep in mind your site might need to be inspected first and the process takes a really long time. All else fails you can apply for a 203K renovation loan, it needs to be paid back but you only pay on the interest during renovation.

In my home town, if you allow the historical society put a sign out front ,after proving it is a landmark, and list it in the chamber of commerce's directory as such...there are funding to restore it to the original from the historical society. Check it out! It can't hurt...

Contact your local historical society and see if the house meets their definition of historical. If it does they may have grants available to assist with the restoration.
