My Hayward pool filter is running at very low pressure and there is some air in the stainer basket. Ideas?

Wish I could see the valve arrangement. That can be the key. If you have Jandy valves then the little o-ring that seals around the valve stem is probably leaking air. Jandy valves are famous for this. Also, lube the pump lid o-ring with either teflon or silicone based lube. Also, check the pump basket for holes or tears. If you find any then the pupm impeller might be clogged up. Typically the pump sounds "gravelly" when this happens.Probably going to be something simple like this.

I am not familiar with the Hayward filter, but when my pool filter has bad pressure I backwash it and that helps.

Relube and reset the seal on the strainer basket on your pump. If that doesn't do it, check all of your hoses and gaskets to make sure they're water tight. If that doesn't do it, you may just need to re-prime your pump (if you don't know how to do that, check your pump instructions or do a web search on "prime pool pump pressure" and that should help narrow your search results down to something useful.)
Mel's answer is very good, if none of those things work then you probably have a leaking under ground pipe. Been there done that, good luck...
