I have an older 2.5 ton Nordyne central air unit. how much freon goes into this unit?
Answers:
A unit of this size I would think should hold about 64 to 68 oz. There should be a data plate on the unit telling you all info of unit. If unit has no data plate, you can charge system this way. Slowly add freon to unit, until you get a good heavy sweating on the suction line. You do not wont this line to frost, so it is important to watch this line when charging.
Other answers:
it is labeled on the plate on the rear of the unit, but the total will vary depending on how long your copper line set is - so like the otherr guy said add freon till the suction line [larger of two] gets cold and sweats and you'll be close enough other wise an exact charge can be achieved be superrheat temp. readings. 6 to 8 degrees is a perfect critical charge. Optimum
