how do I connect 4 sets of electrical wires coming out of an oultet black and white only?
Answers:
sounds like you may have a three way in this circuit, look at hallway sw and see if there is on and off on it if not you have a three way.
can you turn a light in at one end and turn it off at the other end that is a three way.
the red wire make me believe you need to identify where each wire comes from, to wire a three way
You will have pwer on the darkest screw and travelers this may be the two blacks and two whites they should be a straight wire
connecting to the lighter screwsthese yo uneed to make really sure what they go too. at the other end you may have a red wire that connects to a dark screw this would goto the light and the whites are the neutrals.
good luck

I am an electrical contractor. Black wires go to the gold side and white wires go to the silver side bare copper or green goes to the green screw. if there is more then one wire of each color then you should make them up buy connecting all the blacks tougher and add a jumper wire from them and connect the jumper to the outlet. do the same with the rest of the wires. always turn off the power first .

on a switch the white wire should be your hot and the black your switch leg. on a receptacle its the opposite. that is assuming it was wired properly. best answer you could get is to call an electrician.
