what does it cost to upgrade from 100amp service to 200amp service in your home??
Answers:
Upgrading to a 200 amp panel is reasonable if you are building an addition on your home or are adding significant electric consuming equipment. Most homes built today have 150 or 200 amp panels.
Assuming your service (from transformer to your meter) is adequately sized and the drop from your meter to the panel location is short (say less than 15 feet) then I would estimate your labor cost at about $1,200. A 200 amp panel without breakers will be about $100. You will probably also need new entrance cabling from the meter to the new panel. IF you replace the panel with the same brand of panel you will be able to save by using the breakers from the old panel. Plan on a total of about $1500-$1700.
The bottom line is what the guys in your area will charge - get three quotes with references.
AN IMPORTANT ITEM IF YOU ARE ADDING SIGNIFICANT ELECTRICAL STUFF AND YOUR SERVICE (TRANSFORMER TO METER) IS UNDERSIZED AND MUST BE REPLACED, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY YOUR ELECTRIC UTILITY COMPANY WILL DO IT FREE OF CHARGE. MINE DID WHEN I BUILT AN ADDITION AND ADDED AN ELECTRIC vs GAS STOVE AND A JACUZZI TUB.

If you plan to have a contractor do it... Call a few and get some estimates... It all depends on how much work is required to do it in your house... Might cost more if a permit is required. There are many factors that come into place on somthing like that..
Your best bet would be to call a few and get some estimates. They will explain what needs to be done... and may have options for you to choose from...
Good Luck

You will need electrician to replace Panel box. 200 amp is a lot for residential purpose.
