Attic fan? When to use it?

I LIVE IN THE UNGODLY HOT DALLAS, TX. ITS OVER 100 DURING THE DAYS AND IN THE 90S ALL NIGHT. I DON'T HAVE CENTRAL AIR ONLY WINDOW UNITS. THE ELECTRIC BILL WAS $400 THIS MONTH. WILL THE ATTIC FAN HELP? When to run it and how long?

Answers:
Put the fan on a switch that senses temperature. When the temp in the attic gets to some limit you set, then set it to turn on. A simple thermostat switch will do. You will have to mess with the setting. This should help keep your attic at the temp of the outside. And reduce cooling lost to heat transfer via the cieling.

Other answers:
Usually there is a switch that allows you to either blow air up or down. In the summer you can use it to blow the hot air up and in the winter it's great for blowing the warmer air down.

Also, try pulling the blinds before the sun shines in the windows. It might help a little.

Personaly, I would turn on the fan in the evening after it has cooled off outside for two reasons:

A) It will disipate the heat that has built up thruout the day.
B) It will pre-cool the attic for the comming next days' heat.

Turn it off in the middle of the day. All it's going to do is blow hot air around any way.
