There is a horrible smell coming out of the overflow hole surrounded by my sink what can i do to bring it to step away?

The smell is coming out of the drain and out the overflow pipe. I have no concept what the smell could be but it smells horrible. Its not the water because the hose tastes fine, any philosophy???

Answers:    How often do U use that sink? Cause pipes dry up and allow stinkers through...sewer gas might be escaping up an under-used pipe. It could be from a floor drain just round the corner, too?

I work in a underground room, and every few months we smell sewer gas (horrid stench). We pour about a gallon or so of unadultrated wet down the drains in the floor and the shower component (that is never used) and w/i a few hours and 1 incense stick. Poof.. all better. Now, if we would remember to do that BEFORE we are odorously reminded..? hmm..

It seem to happen more within winter. Since we have the bake on, I guess it evaporates quicker.

Good luck -- if all else fail.. call your plumber.
