why does a refrigerator freeze on the highest and lowest setting?

I have a very old fridge(Philco), the coldest setting is 9 and the normal setting is at about 2 or 3, all I keep in there is beverages. Can you tell me why everything is frozen when I have it set between 2&3?

Answers:
well its possible the timer is bad. first check. second check would be the thermostat. call out a technician, and im sure youll only pay about 70 dollars in labor and parts

Other answers:
I'm no expert, but it would appear the control knob isn't working.
If nothing changes when you reset it, then it's broken. You may need to replace it.
Depending on skill level, you may wish to hire a handy man or professional.
I was about to suggest going to the web page, but I think Philco, is out of business. You may have to try some store that carries old and rebuilt refrigerators.
