Whats the going rate for a House Contractor perday. We have been paying 800 dollars for 2 people.?

House Contractor is such a vague term that it's hard to answer your question directly. And is the $800/day for both, or is it each? What are they providing?

I'll use some different terms. For two craftsmen, journeyman level, with at least one carrying a Builder's license, insurance and all the obligations of a company, $800/day would not be exhorbitant. People at this level in my area want to make at least $300/day each and also their business has to support all the daily operating expenses, insurances, tool wear and tear, and on and on......

If you are providing everything, tools, insurance, office, bookeeping and so forth, then they are your employees and then it is high.

A lot would depend on the cost of living in your area and how much work is available.

I don't know of any contractors that charge by the day. It's usually by the job or, materials and an hourly rate. Although, for an 8 hour day, this breaks down to $50 an hour per man, and depending on where you live (California, perhaps?) might be reasonable. Thats a little pricy for my area though. And, I'd be sure they work full 8 hour days.
Right that there are a lot of factors missing you don't address but looking at it simply, if this was just labor (no materials)...
These people make $400/day = $2,000/week = $100,000/year (given 2 weeks off/not paid for).
