A plastic spatula melted on the heating element in my dishwasher.How do I get rid of the smell?Its been a week

Turn your dishwasher to the dry cycle only, let it burn off. Never scrap on an element it will blow out where you scraped. You can also clean the element with a rag & aceatone,to remove the plastic.

That happened to me and the smell just went away naturally. To prevent it from happening again I make sure I put them on the top rack.
Put the thing into the dry mode so the heating elements come on. Check it now and then and wipe it off with a heavier type if rag until you can not get anymore off. Then just let the rest of it burn off.
