Are there any common lawn weeds that could cause your finger to swell?

I was picking weeds today, and now my thumb, only my thumb is itchy and swollen. I put some cortizone on it, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I am also applying ice to it, but it's doing little but confort.

Are you sure you didn't get some kind of insect bite when you were pulling weeds? This may require a different treatment altogether.

The defenses system ( the residue ) also protects it against certain types of bacteria. Unfortunately, this stuff can cause a reaction on human skin. Some people (like you and me ) may be more sensitive to it than others. Cortizone didn't work, so you may need to try a stronger poison ivy type topical medication/cream that a pharmacist can recommend.
