Why does Joint compound come within different weights (i.e. muted solidity, mid-weight, regular)?

What weight is used for what purpose?

Answers:    Regular is best for first coat and second application. Lightweight is best used for finish coat and contracted coat applications.
If you use lightweight in your first and second applications it tend to pockmark and bubble to easily. That lead to a whole lot of extra sand. :-(
I'm just going to cart a few guesses.

The heavier weight can be used for texturing.

The midweight is all-purpose.

The street lamp weight can be used for ceiling.

Try doing some and see what weight your rotator cuff prefers.
russ, they adjectives have duplicate content , apart from the light shipment
they use less dampen in that one
i use the mid substance ,for the first coat ,and the second, and top it out with , the lighter one,
and yes it is lighter, if your spraying , the lightweight works better , also use for texure
"Lite" compounds are available contained by premixed in the box, bucket and within the dry setting formulas, as are "regular".
Lite compounds are not necessarily lighter in consignment, however, their composition is such that they are easy sand, IE lite.

I don't use bucket packaged compounds as they hold to short a shelf life. Not that it matter, given the volume.

I mix, at a 2-1 ratio, 40min.-5min lite and apply two coats in sooner or later and because the lite has a soft surface, apply standard box mix topping as the knotty surface for painting,
