How much are new filters for pools?

I just had a quote to fit a new filter to my pool. Are they really that expensive or is this guy taking trying to pull the wool over the eyes of a man of the cloth?

Need more information. Rather like asking "how much is a new car?" What kind of filter? What size? Above ground or in ground pool? What is the horsepower of your pump? See what I mean? Remember: your filter is your best friend. Buy "cheap, cheap, low,low,net,net" and you will increase your exasperation level exponentially!
