Is there anything that I can use to prevent my new dining room table from becoming any more scratched?

the wood is dark cherry

Answers:
Gidday,

What I did with my last table to prevent it from being scratched was I got a piece of glass cut to size and placed it on the table. It looked great, you could still see the beautiful wood grain though the glass and all I had to do was clean the glass.

When I eventually sold the table to my friends the table top still looked brand new.

table cloth
table cloth
furniture polish containing wax should help, as will keeping a table cloth on it.
put a clear plastic cover over itor just put a table clothe on it
use a table pad and cover with a tablecloth
You can have pads made for the table that will protect it and fit perfectly--it's not cheap but 100% effective. Check out the back of magazines for companies that offer this--or try www. tablepads.com.

You can also consider having glass cut for the table, it's a bit old fashion but protects the wood while still allowing it to be seen.

You can put a vinyl felt back cloth on and then a nice cloth over it. The vinyl will protect the table but you won't see it, as it is incredibly tacky.

You can also try place mats, table runners and very soft trivets to place your serving pieces on.
