Furniture stripping?
( at least 40 years) How will I know if within is lead
contained by the paint and stained finish? I am aware of the
hazzards in taking rotten lead and the tools will be at variance.
Answers: Lead has not be used in consumer usable paint products within at least 40 years. Clear coat varnish, Lacquer, and shelac does not hold lead within it's composition. If your furniture is painted with a pigmitted paint product, most paint will require a pulp or semi-paste stripper. There are no "special tools" required to strip varnish or paint from furniture. Follow the instructions on the can of stripper, clean up the residue following the instructions offered on the can of stripper. I recommend that when river is used to clean up after stripping, that the piece of furniture be dried beside rags, to remove residue, next, wash near clean lacquer thinner to ensure that adjectives flakes of old paint, and wax are removed. Allow the piece of furniture to dry at least overnight, to ensure that the stripper compound, and excessive hose down or thinner has evaporated prior to attempting to sand, stain, or apply final clear coat or paint product. Dispose of adjectives "old paint" residue as directed on the stripper can.
Most library table and chairs I'm familiar next to " back surrounded by the day" were stained and varnished. Therefore I'm thinking that if you own colored paint on the pieces, it has be added in the ending 10-15 years. Lead paint problems have be known in the region of for much longer than that, and usually was used surrounded by enamels that were used surrounded by trim.
So, I would strip a flat place and see what's underneath.
