If your washing machine has broken down it should be fixeable. There used to be a series of books in the library called, I kid you not, How to Fix A... and there was one for washing machines.
If its an energy efficient machine and won't drain it might not be the pump, the sump might be blocked. If its the sump you can probably sort it yourself if you have basic diy skills. If its that let us know.
Otherwise, yes, through the access hatch at the back.
its located below the drum & usually connected with a large rubber hose to the drum,you can trace it via the drain hose which is also connected to the pump ,you will probably need to turn the washing machine onto its side or at least lean it on something ,be carefull its very heavy .

the pump is usually located on the bottom of the washer between the motor and the transmission. you can trace it by following the hose, in most cases it is plastic and held in place with four bolts. location can vary if washer is belt driven or direct drive.
