My AC makes extremely loud rattling noices when I turn it on. Whats wrong and how can I fix that myself?

Your rotating fan need to be greased.....when was the last time you cleaned your A/C, the filter???? You need a friend depending on the location of your A/C and take it out. Near on top of the shaft of the fan, there should be a hole usually cover with a little round rubber take it out and put some oil. Take the time to clean the pan (you can use a hose). Let it dry up outside in the sun then plug it back... If its still make a rattling noise try to shim it with small piece of wood around the casing. And please unplug before you do anything. Start by placing your hands all over unit until you hear the rattle go away, most of the time its loose screws or panels and may be more than in one place.
