Dry ice to cool down an above ground pool? Bad idea or not?
Answers:
Install one of those fountains that floats right on your pool. Sprays the pool water right up in the air and cools the pool right down.

It's not a bad idea. It won't hurt the pool. It just won't stay cold long enough though.

Won't hurt anything... just will look like a big witch's cauldron brewing for a while. Nice special effect.
Dry ice is carbon dioxide.
It should work fine, though it is only about twice as effective at cooling as regular ice per given mass, so if dry ice is more than twice as expensive as regular ice, it would be more economical to use regular ice. Also, you will need a LOT of whatever you use. A pound of ice will absorb ~216 Btu going from solid to 72 degrees, and theoretically cool 27 gallons of "bath" water 1 degree F, so a 10,000 gallon pool will take 370 lbs of ice or 185 lbs of dry ice per degree of temperature drop down to 72 deg.
ours is to hot too. we bought 6 bags of ice didnt cool it down much. only dropped a couple degrees. kids say their bored i say get in pool they say no way its hot. guess we will add water and drop more ice in it this weekend.
I agree. Better to spend his money on a fountain. They really do work nicely at cooling the water.
