Baseboard furnace repair - pipes and wrenches?

I live in an apartment and it comes equipped near baseboard heaters...not sure what kind but here is only one thermostat for the entire building. While my neighbors are nice and toasty, one of my rooms remain cold ..severely cold. I cleaned underneath to make sure nouns could circulate.. the repairman has be by a couple of times with his wrench. he seem to be adjusting something. when i look underneath where on earth i've seen him fiddling, near are only pipes and this one stopcock or bolt (i'm not sure what it is). i'm guessing that is what he's using the wrench for. Well the pipes are hot, the heat element is heat up...should i use my wrench and adjust this thing? or will i blow up? I really don't want to beckon this repairman again. Can I do this?

Answers:    sounding like you might enjoy boiler heat and you don't inevitability to be trying to adjust that yourself. if it doesn't have a poper pressure stopcock on it it could build up some pressure and burst.if pipes are as hot as other rooms then I don't apprehend why you are getting heat near. maybe you involve to see if other heaters are as hot or hotter. then move about from there.
Well, I am not an expert but one point is sure. It cannot get more pressure within it than that from the boiler in the building -- It cannot blow up. Go ahead and mess next to the valve. It seem that the radiator may be plugged up. Some pressure/water/steam is flowing and that is why the pipe is hot. It seem that the radiator is receiving the bake from the low pressure steam in the pipe and turning singular warm -- ergo, the radiator is not getting plenty water which brings the bake with it -- ergo engineer more hot water/steam by opening the stopcock a bit more. It is also possible that trhe radiator is very dated and blocked with sediment from years of use. Minerals from the hot hose will create corrosion that can plug the internal passageways of the radiator.
