How to paint garage door and outside wood?

The garage door is in wood. What are the steps?
Sand off, apply wood primer, etc.?

Answers:
you don't necessarily have to sand but you do have to make sure the surface is CLEAN. if there is any cracked or peeling paint it must be removed. then prime and paint. if the wood is stain grade (you want to apply a clear/transparent finish). the same applies remove cracking or peeling finish, clean and apply new finish.

Other answers:
You could do what the Karate Kid did. Wax on... Wax off.... and all that stuff.

First you have to prepare the wood. Sand the rough edges, etc. Then apply a primer, then paint.
Primer. (you can have primer tinted to the color you are painting)

Then paint. (if you have your primer tinted the same color you could possibly get by with one coat)

No need to sand.
Prime it first (yes tint pimer to finish color) this will raise the wood grain so next you will need to sand , then apply a finish coat.
