does central air conditioning pull in air from outside?
Answers:
No. Central Air conditioning re-cycles the air within your house.
There is an outside unit shaped like a box that has a fan in it. But that fan is circulating outside air around a condensing system. That air never enters your house. This condensing unit is pumping coolant into a coil that is located in your AC duct work (usually right above the furnace). The coil serves to remove humidity from the air in your house, thereby cooling it.
You can have add-on system capabilities that exchange air with the outside, but these are rare.

NO, it just recycles the inside air.
yes and no.......most the time no but some units have a fresh air supply on them.

well just enough to circulate the air in your home but a/c takes the air in your home circulates it through the unit thus cooling it till it has cooled all the air in your home then shuts down.when the temperature rises above the thermostats setting it turns back on for another cycle.if you have central a/c then you have to have an alternative heating source.an oil furnance or electric heat?i bet your electrical bills are high.if you can why not replace all that ?get a heat pump and you have heat and a/c in the same unit.i bought a new unit for my home and i pay 130.00 amonth it was 135.00 and since i have paid on a budget plan for 3 years ive always had at least 150.00 excess every year.also i have only paid for 33 months because of the extra money i paid so at the end of the 12th month i have no electical bill.check with your electricity company to see if they have a budget plan available.if you have a gas stove and a hot water heater you wont be eliglble
where the unit it self is, not the unit outside of your house but the one in your house usually in the basement or attic, pulls in the surronding air, running it through the evaporator, and the freon removes the heat from the "air" the air is then pushed through your vents and into your house the hot air is "sent" to the condense ( the thing outside) and is released into the air, so the answer is no the air is not coming from outside directly, but through your home.
