Maytag clothes washer: I open the lid, closed it, & it wouldn't start again. What's wrong?
What could be wrong? Can I (a logically intelligent, but poor woman) fix it myself? What should the parts cost me, if so? What might the repair cost me, if I call a service repair company?
Thank you, within advance, for your time and answers. :)
Answers: Do you enjoy the type of dial/knob that pulls outward after you set the cycle? If so, maybe when you open the lid, the wieght of the lid pushed it back surrounded by. Otherwise, the underside of the lid that lifts have a small knobby thing that touches a spring close to peice of plastic in a short time hole when putting the lid down. That peice could be sticking down. Reach underneath around the edge of the inside of the tub and you should know how to unstick it with a finger. Can't consider what else it could be.
Good luck to you.
P.S. My lid switch is toward the front on my maytag. It has gotten stuck previously due to gunked up detergent. A good cleaning near really hot water should remedy the sticking if thats the issue. If i.e. the issue, if it's sticking, you should hear the machine come on when you're pushing it around if you hold the machine on.
I know this may nouns stupid, but did you try pulling the start knob out again? Sometimes when you open the lid, it pushes it contained by and you have to verbs it out again to start it (just like starting it for the first time).
